  1. I don't think the Nilsen Brown comparison is particularly valid aside from the fact they played the same position for us, they are very different players. Brown adapted to playing as a holding midfielder, with reasonable success, as his legs went and that was before he even signed for us. Before that he was ridiculously effective box to box shithouse after starting out life playing a wider role at hibs. Nilsen has always been a holding midfielder by the look of him, he really gets the role and is far more effective in it than Scott Brown ever was for any club. He see's and executes passes that Brown could never conceive in the first place and despite his lack of pace he always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Fwiw I thought Brown wasn't awful in red...... I wasn't devastated when he left though. Despite his age he wasn't a terrible holding midfielder at this level by any stretch and his presence on the park was effective at times. For me the biggest problem with Scott Brown was it was just a bit too much about Scott Brown both in his demeanour and the press sycophancy which he lapped up, especially when there was hun involvement. Nilsen doesn't seem to have that ego about him, he's all about the team and add in his already notable leadership qualities I would say Nilsen is a better leader on the park than Brown and far more effective in position regardless of the standard of team mate available to either.

  2. I think Browns biggest problem was he was such an iconic player for the Victims, many Dons fans couldn't see past that. The continual tit-for-tat with Shay Logan was too of mind for me when he signed. But he proved in patches that he was still a very high quality player, and seemed to hold quite a bit more respect for aberdeen than I ever thought he would. Goodwin refusing to have Brown on his coaching squad was ultimately what ended his aberdeen career

  3. Moderators: please delete all hearts chat until after our game against them. They've got a great young manager who should definitely be given at least three more games to turn it round.

  4. Very much looked that way from where I was sitting behind the goals. I think he basically missed.

  5. Well, that was as expected, completely dominant and another win! MacKenzie probably MOTM, his link up with McGrath is top notch. Back two solid again and we generally strolled it. A few things worth noting though. Nisbet wasn't amazing, and missed an absolute sitter, but he was better than Sokler who was poor again. Gueye out wide didn't really work. Keskinen was poor when he came on, terrible decision making, constantly running into trouble and not quick enough to get away from his man. However, he was playing on the opposite side, switching with McGrath, which hopefully is an experiment we don't repeat as it managed to bring out the worst in McGrath, Keskinen, Devlin and MacKenzie - quite a feat. Weirdly, we also inverted Shinnie and Palaversa (who was good today, moving the ball well) too, with both playing on their wrong foot. Obviously, it was a comfortable win in first gear, so it's difficult to read too much into it. There were plenty of positives, as well as a few questions that we'll hopefully answer in the coming fixtures.

  6. Seems as good a place as any to post this, so here goes. Have just spent a bit of time looking over my shoulder for Scotland's third force rushing up on us, but couldn't see them. Upon further investigation, I now understand now on account of the fact they have lost EIGHT consecutive games seeing them FOURTEEN points behind us having played a game more, out of the League Cup at the first hurdle, out of Europa League qualifiers at the first hurdle. In fairness however, apparently their hotel bookings are fairly positive. God bless the Jambos, always providing entertainment value.

  7. You're right. He was clearly a leader for the Tims and Scotland, and us for 2-3 months. I just wouldn't think of him when discussing leaders of the Dons, because of his overall time here. Had he managed a full season of the standard he first set, then I'd definitely be thinking differently. Paul Hartley was a definite leader on the pitch, dragging us through his first few games (hat trick included), but I wouldn't think of him either.

  8. No, only on the online player. They'll probably use RedTV commentary today from the Aberdeen game, they tend to just use the club commentary of the home club. They only give a toss about Celtic and Rangers.

  9. In such troubling times of strife and discord, behold the soothing calm of the humble Venn diagram : Perhaps you could adapt this Venn diagram to show us midfielders/age/passing ability!

  10. But how did Brown become a liability? Overplayed? Having to do the work of two or three players because he had people like Funso Ojo around him? Was Brown not a victim of being in a poor team, and also being 36? Do you think even a younger Nilsen would have thrived in that team? I think Brown did well but was overplayed in that wrong role/position. I think you stick that version of Scott Brown in our current team and he'd be doing just as well as Nilsen is.

  11. Another great win that we made hard work of in the end. We're going to need to be a bit more careful with the subs if we're going to continue on our run. Sokler and Ambrose both dogshit when they came on, and they weren't subs we needed to be making. Similarly, Clarkson for Palaversa was a poor sub. With Clarkson just returning to fitness, don't take him on as one of the holding players, that's not his strength. We'll lose points attempting that in future, one of the three subs would have been fine. Anyway, we dominated completely, with everyone playing a part. Palaversa was good, eased his way through it without being spectacular (probably should have been booked). Keskinen okay, but his lack of pace is going to hold him back, it's his one issue. A really intelligent player, but can't beat his man in a foot race. Unlike Morris, who came on with one instruction and executed it perfectly. Nisbet wasn't up to much, movement wasn't especially good. I think we should send all our shite players to Norway, as Gueye was excellent today. His all round play and movement was top notch. He'd have been my MOTM, if it wasn't for Nilsen. His best game for the Dons (among some good ones), he completely bossed midfield put in some lovely passes, whilst not putting a foot wrong. He also did some of the work Shinnie usually does, as Palaversa was quite reserved in terms of movement. We're definitely winning the league.
