I can remember them all as far back as Alec Douglas-Home who had to renounce his peerage to take on a moribund Tory party around 1963. By the two 74 elections I was involved, but neither Wilson, nor Callaghan was radical enough. From today’s perspective, they were almost Kerensky and Kosygin compared today’s self-serving cabal of wishy-washy dinna-scare-the-cuddies “progressives”. I despair after the graft put in during the 77-79 referendum campaign, and the input of trades unions to the Kenyon Wright Constitutional Convention, that Holyrood’s become a safety-first talking shop full of party placemen/women/others with any hint of radicalism strangled at birth by the system, opinion polls, and sneaky, snide SPADs. I’ll be spoiling my ballot in May as there is fuck all worthy of my vote. Anent Westminster, it’s as remote politically as Peru. As Bambi said to Scumbag College, “the rich kids always win”. I trust I can rely on your vote? Dinna bother.4 points

I’ve just seen the club announcement. I think only Bobby Clark, Chalky (Tam’s best pal), Jinky, and Jimmy Wilson from the 1967 cup final team are still on the right side of the turf. Of the 1970 cup-winning team, Bobby Clark, Jim Hermiston, George Murray, Martin Buchan, Joe Harper, Bumper, and George Buchan are still extant. Tam was also Inverness Thistle (RIP) player-manager, and when he came back to the city as a taxi driver was aye good for a pint in the cricket club at Mannofield. I was at a Football Memories session at Pittodrie about 3 years ago, and it was sad to see how dementia had affected him. Ach.3 points

I hope Callum McGregor can hold it together. We don't want an abandonment due to a waterlogged pitch.2 points

I'm well known for a being a dandy in my home town. When we won the cup last year I had a lot of messages from people wishing me well which was lovely. I have to say though, at least 50% were celtic fans. In particular my pal Gary's message sticks in my mind. Words to the effect of "I was fucking raging when mitov saved from Johnson until it cut to Aberdeen fans going mental. Instantly thought of you and all the shit you've been through over the years and couldn't not be delighted for you." I must admit I was very touched to get that message.2 points

He would have been a team-mate of Fergie's at Falkirk in 1972-73. My dad told me once that he attended the 1970 cup final, and many Celtic fans stopped to congratulate him on Aberdeen's victory on his way home. I don't want to get all maudlin, but I wish I had asked him more about following the Dons in the 1960s and 70s. Cannae now.2 points

If we had anyone actually interested in holding Reform Ltd to account, it would be the end for Farage as well, he seems to be all over the files in a political inference context. BBC seem far more interested in “At Home With The Farages” puff pieces showing what a ruddy nice bloke to have a pint with Our Nige is while the Labour government are perfectly content to let GB News break all kinds of broadcasting regulations on a daily basis and despite the mounting evidence that Brexit was planned by these outside influences from the very beginning have no interest whatsoever in addressing that head on.2 points

I wonder if they will put out a statement thanking the SFA for their co-operation. They're usually quick to criticise them.1 point

I did hear Sheridan was back in the political ring, but didn't know for which party. I should have guessed. I was a big supporter of him once upon a time and was a proud supporter of the SSP, but you can't trust a person who changes their football allegiances and becomes a hun in the process. That, for me, is beyond the pale.1 point

Assist for Clarkson in his first game for Blackpool. Leading Huddersfield Town 1-0 away from home.1 point

Katrine Troll, a strong ally in the Stop The War campaign, thrown under the bus by the man who called loyal supporters ‘scabs’ because they refused to validate his lies. Now he’s topping Alba’s constituency vote list. “Beware charisma” we were correctly warned by a cynical but sensible college boss.1 point

Tommy Sheridan having a 4 ball with Billy Davies caused a lot of damage to the nation. I mean, I’d probably lie about it too but it’s a bit much expecting your friends to do time over it1 point

The big problem with dumping Starmer is that he will almost certainly be replaced by somebody worse. If it is Milipede or the ginger growler, the whole country is completely screwed1 point

I think he played in the 1972 game where it was 0-0 at HT, and finished 8-0 to the Dons. Next morning, I had to laugh at the HT phoned-in Daily Record report filleting the Dons for a poor performance under the score “Aberdeen 8 Falkirk 0”. https://www.afcheritage.org/matches/match-report?id=30411 point

It was quite handy, him dying when he did. A bit like David Kelly and Robin Cook New Labour was always lucky like that1 point

Can't amend the above post, in reply to Kowalski, but the fall of Farage will be a great day. It will come, it may well be with them in office, but his fall will be from a great height and when he does fall, others will fall with him. Bring it on.1 point

As long as it is not passing it from full back to centre half to other centre half to other full back and back again- possession with purpose is needed, not possession for the sake of it to stop the other team having the ball and doing absolutely fuck all with it, until one of said centre backs gives it away and defence is left exposed or retaining possession from a goal kick by having centre back pass the ball along the 6 yard box to Mitov, who is then under pressure to do something with it which he is not very good at If that bio is accurate, he likes possession in the opponents half, not the low block, so that would definitely be a positive1 point

It’s a good chance to dust off St Etienne’s greatest hits. I heard he’s on the phone to finalise the deal as we speak.1 point

Definitely not him, which just makes it’s funnier Just to double the laughs, the wee scrote most likely to benefit from Starmer going would be Streeting, but he’s fucked himself over too. As has Sarwar up here. Great stuff, they all thoroughly deserve it. Perhaps we may see some blue forensic tents appear in some gardens, or is that a bit over the top?1 point

I know I'm drifting off topic here, but I did suggest once on the auld place that a book about the last 25 years of the AFC (2000 - 2025) would be an interesting, if difficult read. The glory years have been written about by many authors over the years, a book which focuses on the less good times needs to be written.1 point

Tommy McMillan passed away last night after a long illness. Older Dandies will remember Tam as a fine centre-half and a Scottish Cup Winner in 1970.0 points
