I may be out of sync with many, but I just don't get all the angst on this. Replacing any member of staff is a tricky process, let alone something as crucial to a football club as a manager. Why do folk expect it do be done quickly? I'd much rather it were done right. There's so much we don't know about what's happening behind the scenes, who is available, who is not. It's not as easy as simply having identified a few names beforehand and then them magically being in a position to say yes right off the bat. Apart from the Cup (which is a long-shot given the state of the team) this season is basically a write-off now. So far better to limp on and get the "right" person than do something quickly. Even then, there are so many variables that the "right" person may not succeed. Most managers fail. Even if the "right" person says yes, there are wider factors. I don't think it would be too speculative to suggest that Jimmy not bringing his family with him had a negative impact, as did the loss early on of a key member of his coaching staff. Life is full of shitty variables that mean the best laid plans o' mice and men gang aft agley.3 points

Being brought in to help the Hun settle in his six month loan period IMO. Welcome back Doc2 points

I’d doubt it, as the next gaffer will want to take in his own staff which seems to be the norm. I imagine that the club will wait until Blow Up Sheep offers his advice before arriving at a decision.2 points

Fyvie was never the same after his injury at Alloa. He played a decent number of games for us, and I don't think anyone was disappointed with him when he left, especially as he got a very surprising punt at it down South with a decent Wigan side. They obviously had only watched the clips when he first came through and not the stuff in between under Brown. He seemed to play well any time I saw him for Cove. He talks well when on Red TV, and obviously has a lot of love for the club. Hope he has a good retirement.2 points

It isn’t that these allegedly non shambolic clubs have replacements ready to go whenever they sack a manager, it’s that they’ve decided to sack the manager weeks before they actually do so and they spend the time organising the replacement. We’ve obviously sacked Jimmy sooner than intended so the replacements weren’t quite at the “sign here please” stage. I still contend that that doesn’t make us a shambles in any kind of way. If anything, it suggests there’s an old-school honour in how we deal with senior people.2 points

What sort of update would keep everyone happy though? If there's a potential issue with the manager's previous club then any public announcement could prejudice the resolution of that issue. If there's a potential issue with the preferred candidate himself then any public announcement could have an impact on our plan B, plan C, plan Z, etc. If we're in negotiations with any party on any topic, it's usually best not to show your hand until those negotiations are concluded. If we're looking for an announcement just to say we've made an announcement, people are still going to be pishing their pants over the vagueness of it. There will be plenty of time and scope to hold people to account once the process is concluded and we get the full story, getting the pitchforks out and demanding speed takes priority is how we'll end up with someone like Robinson.2 points

I was just about to say similar.Think Thelins position was becoming untenable just as Luts was getting his feet under the table,so not really fair to expect him to have someone lined up at that point. Even if he had potential replacements in mind, doesnt mean theyre available...or want to come at that time.Saying that, any sort of update to keep Blow up sheeps knickers dry wouldnt go amiss2 points

Beginning to believe its as much about pot luck as to who fits in where.Deflated when McInnes was appointed,as plenty others were too,but he surprised me.And the opposite with Thelin, genuinely thought here we go,and was surprised at how poor he ended up. Odds are we must be about due a good guy.....1 point

Trying to see the positives of him starting in summer; I think him being able to sit back, watch the games, and begin planning who will stay/go/come in will be very beneficial. Thelin didn't have that luxury, being the manager of Elfsborg still. Likely too (unless Leven/Doc produce some magic) that, like Thelin and McInnes (for Hearts), he has the League Cup group stage to build some momentum for his first games. But, it's also a lot of effort for a guy whose record isn't that good. Healthy win rate at Brann and won a cup. Off a poor spell in France (and I went on a Horneland/St Ettienne rabbit hole and really struggled to find many fans not absolutely slating him), but then a new language, league, culture - it was a difficult gig to take on. Maybe Scotland and Aberdeen will suit him more. Cant say my excitement levels are the same as they were when Thelin was the target, but then maybe that's down to Thelin himself not being as good as I thought he'd be. But Lutz seems pretty determined this is the guy, and apart from our dignity, what have we got to lose?1 point

Sensible move by the club given the circumstances. Bolstered long and short term options. Will no doubt be an element of our support that still moan about it but I'm happy with this.1 point

Sticking with Leven till the Summer is typical of our club. A huge part of the problem and yet they expect a happy resolution. Cut the cancer out.1 point

To put a positive spin on the basket case it actually is, it's great news the dollar is so weak. I need to go to Denver for work next week and it's $1.35 to the £1. Best I have had in years. Keep it up.1 point

Rumours going around that the delay is Horneland losing out on £1 million, if he takes another job before summer, due to the terms of his departure from St Ettienne. I think Leven/Doc until summer should be fine. Could be a problem when we win the cup.1 point

Most of the reporting suggests Doc is here to support Leven until summer when Horneland will take over as permanent manager.1 point

Really pleased at this news. Got a lot of time for Doc though it does perhaps suggest we might be going with Leven for the rest of the season1 point

He wasn’t looking well at all when announcing this. A bit droopy round the face and his hand was caked in makeup He better croak it live on tv. I think he owes us that much1 point

My punts are bone dry min but thanks for the concern It's not the the lack of any update that grips my shit, it is actually the fact that the Penguin Thief gives these "update" interviews now and again and rabbits on a lot and say a "lot" buit at the end of the day he has actually said fuk all. The boy should be a fkn politician. Personally I would not give a shit if they never say a word and then one day make an announcement that we have appointed a new manager and his name is ??????? Anyway I am sure I will get pelters for for having another go at our penguin thief, but for me the jury is well and truly out with him. Is he an upgrade to the Gunner ?? (i am nae sure) but he is certainy different that is for sure. As for who is our next manger going to be? I have said it before and will say it again. I am long past the point of actually giving a fuk. If it eventually is the horny Norwegian then it will be the horny Norwegian, If it is nae him then it will be somebody else (eventually)1 point

Maybe we should borrow the Nottingham Forest hiring process - they've managed to seamlessly hire three managers this season alone, that must be the complete opposite of a shambles.1 point

To be fair to Lutz ( tin hat on) he only came in I dunno late October/early November and we were getting some results then so not inconceivable that they did not foresee sacking Thelin just after the new year. So the next time we need a manager that process will hopefully be in place.1 point

Jim Ratcliffe can go take a right good fuck to himself. We’re surely reaching the ‘heads on spikes’ part of end stage capitalism This is a prick who played hungry hippos with uk taxpayers cash, then points the finger at immigrants? Its amazing that folk still fall for this pish1 point

Nope min, that is an opinion. I think you might find that having an opinion and jumping to conclusions is not exactly the same thing1 point
-
"It is more like he is not really all that sure if he wants the job or not" is literally an example of jumping to conclusions.1 point
-
It's hardly "jumping to conclusions" tho is it? Anyway, keep wearing your red tinted glasses min I am sure you will be fine. Jist stay calm1 point
-
I fully agree the wait has become frustrating as we all feel like we are in limbo a wee bit. Equally though I don't see it as a sign of the club being a shambles, just thorough. I would also add that is possible to be interested in a job but still require convincing that it's the right one for you.1 point
-
It's hardly realistic if you're jumping to conclusions without knowing any of the facts. The person tasked with fixing the "shambles" has only been in the job for about 2 months. So aye, calm doon.1 point
-
Nae looking to argue here. It's a bit harsh suggesting to anyone that they need to "calm doon" for basically jist being realistic. We are a shambles at the moment and have been for a long long time. Fluked the scottish cup win back in May 2025 and we all fkn loved that. But we know that was a fluke and we were jist papering over the cracks that are getting bigger and growing year after year. Nae sure what the advice to realists should be, but it shoodna be calm doon1 point

Cheers for that Al. We might not win a lot of trophies. But we do give it a go. I'd also claim that us and other teams would have won more if it wasn't for the blatant cheating we have all witnessed in big games, especially where deadco were concerned. Plenty reasons to be a proud Dandy and can easily claim to be Scotlands third club. If a manager doesn't fancy signing for us, fuck 'em. Their loss.1 point
-
Not really. We're a small club in footballing terms and a lot of the names approached, just wouldn't have fancied the job. Take heart from the fact you'll soon have a new guy to write off. You enjoy that.1 point
