Yep, fully expect Shinnie to be starting this one for that very reason. Re the motherwell away game. I felt for spells in the game we held them at arms length which as I understand it not too many teams have been able to do against them at all really. Optimism springs from this I think, whilst they were worth their win in the end they certainly didn't get it all their own way and given the respective clubs form going into the tie this feels like improvement. Is this enough to feel confident of a win tonight? No. But it's a different fixture and we are at home. Heed first, etc. 2-1 dons Nisbet and Keskinen3 points

Key ingredient tonight is fight. If we don’t show that we really really fucking want to defend this trophy like our lives depend upon it then there is something deep routed and endemically wrong in this squad. We just haven’t seen that kind of determination for some time. We saw it in moments in games under early Thelin but it was off the back of a confidence we would just win. I want to see that tonight. If we get first goal and are determined enough, it’s there for us.3 points

Well that was entertaining. Our captain MOTM, not for the first time, despite having lost his legs three seasons ago. Covered every inch of the park, and a great strike. Thought the defence did well. Frame was shakey first half, but did well second, and the other three were just sensible and solid in windy conditions. Exactly what you want to see. Nisbet played well again, and Cameron worked hard. Keskinen and Milanovic were dogshite, and really good subs by Leven to address that. Not playing Olusanya wide was an excellent decision. He's a poor footballer, but he can run quickly and harass defenders, which is exactly how he earned their player a red. It's all about playing players to their strengths, they don't have to be world beaters. Beaton was pish. Think he was rattled by the VAR calls. Getting two big calls wrong, apparently, must add a bit of pressure on to a ref. There was no doubt in my mind that their defender was going off after he was called over to the screen, even though it looked fifty-fifty. I didn't think either red was a clear and obvious error, with the ref getting the first call correct (although I think the challenge was soft and accidental, but last man and all that). Fancy a trip to East end for the next round, it's been a long time since I've been.2 points

Sounds like the 70-71 clobber. I still have my Dons Subbuteo team of that season somewhere in the depths of the loft, numbers hand-painted on with a pin, and hair coloured to match the players’ barnets. Hummel Paints had no ginger shade, so our number 8’s heid is the same colour as his shirt, shorts, and socks. Neither Olivia Newton-John nor Stevie Nicks are in the team box, but I did raid another team so that we has a sub - George Buchan, whose coiffeur shade matches the 12 on his back. There is also a change strip XI, which was bought fae Jimmy Asher’s in Keith as Chelsea before customisation. The 70-71 outfit was a classic, and that squad is up there with 1983 in my mind.2 points

If someone has started a thread on a topic that you'd expect to be approached with a bit of empathy and an attempt at understanding, and they haven't bothered to do a basic fucking Google search to find the information you've provided, then it's probably a waste of time providing it.2 points

I think we are still in a little bit of unknown territory given the changes in the side. Completely revamped midfield brings an equal number of reasons for optimism as well as concern and the next steps could go either way. Just being willing to play what looked like a 3, certainly out of possession is a plus for me. Been screaming for it all season so we aren’t so easy to play through. I thought we were relatively successful at containing the ability of Motherwell to do that. I’ve seen them take better teams than us apart by playing through the middle of teams with ease. If Geiger has the legs to continue or even build on his work on Sunday and Cameron is willing to put in the yards again then we have a chance of containing them again and creating platforms to build on. Agree the right side needs reinforced. Lengalo (?) had too much freedom to run at our RBs due to Olusanya not tracking back. I’d play Bilalovic there as I think he works harder and does track back (although as Jute says he isn’t brilliant defensively). With Topi and Nisbet I genuinely think when they start to have more faith in our midfield not to be like the parting of the Red Sea they’ll be more confident to press higher up the park and start to create more of a threat. Couple of times on Sunday you could see Topi wasn’t sharp into the box for a couple of chances, almost like he isn’t gambling for fear of leaving us exposed behind. Nisbet has been doing that all season. My only concern after watching Sunday is I can’t see Maswanhise having another stinker and they will have Fadinger back who by all accounts is the engine in their midfield. Hopefully home advantage and a bit more comfort between players who are just getting to know each other gives us enough to be in the battle and win. COYR.2 points

This is the biggest game of our season, and yet we're going into it with a feeling that losing to Motherwell has just become normalised. Lose this, and with top six looking unlikely unless we can find some stunning form, our next meaningful game will be in July in the League Cup group stage away to Spartans or something. Win, and the whole outlook of the season changes. Now you have a huge cup tie awaiting, potentially 3,000 plus Aberdeen fans heading down to Dunfermline, electric atmosphere on a night when the whole country will want us knocked out, with Hampden at stake and a real chance to win the thing again. It's something to look forward to, which if we lose tomorrow we won't have. No European football for at least 18 months, no trips to Hampden this season, we don't even have life under our new manager until summer. We haven't had a statement win in the league (beat a top six team coupled with a good performance) since Hibs in April 2025. Hearts has been our biggest win of this season, but it didn't really have you feeling the corner had been turned. Praying the cup brings something out of us.2 points

So that's our season extended by another fortnight. Seems a fair swap - Well get to focus on the league while we focus on the cup.1 point

How many chances is this dud going to get FFS. He is hopeless. Too much to hope for that he gets injured in the warm up. Jesus biggest game of the season left and we play him1 point

It was an absolute beauty. Both teams still in with a chance and the men’s team have a decent chance of making it through.1 point

This will absolutely blow your mind but it’s not ok to call someone any of those things. Doing so would see you fired from any job in the UK. Being on a football pitch does not insulate you from that.1 point

Rubber Shop was the go to. Not even a logo on the chest just the Bukta name printed on the size label inside the collar. Later on they became best known for being the first kit sponsor in Scotland when they had their name splashed across the front of the Hibs kits. Caused a right furore at the time.1 point

That shot, fae that lassie, in the last game was something quite extraordinary. I am no expert in the mechanics, physics and geometry of curling - but it looked pretty incredible to me.1 point

You think it's easy for a black person to accuse someone of racism? Do you think it was easy for Logan? Did it look like it was easy for him? Did it look like it was easy for him to get booed by an entire stadium for making it known? Or would it have been much easier for him to be racially abused and kept quiet? The bottom line is, you (nor I) have absolutely no idea what happened in Milne's situation. I've no idea who this thread is referring to either (some foreign pish no doubt), but I suspect that you've got no idea what happened in that situation either. You're choosing to believe the accused rather than the accuser. It suggests a lot about your pre conceived biases. Now, I could take that, and extrapolate that you're a racist, but that would be equally as ridiculous as the suggestions you appear to be making.1 point

Can't agree with jute here. I actually thought Sunday gave me a wee bit of hope for tonight. Is that possibly although it was crap it was better than recent crap?1 point

Previous games against Motherwell felt we were always in it (admittedly out my tits on morphine for one) and maybe unlucky not to get more from them than we did. Sunday never felt we were winning at any stage. While we created some half chances and Olusanya hit the post I don’t remember Ward making a save and Motherwell were in control. I think we are now further behind Motherwell than we were before January window. Really hope I am wrong but I cannot see us getting through tonight.1 point

No. He shouldn't be allowed to play for Aberdeen. It's just wrong.1 point

I sure hope the cup game(s) are our only big games of the season but our form gives me the fear that the league isn't quite as finished for us as we'd like it to be. Worst away form in the league, 10th overall for the last six games courtesy of what looks like a bit of a fluke win against Livi and second bottom for the last 10 games is very worrying stuff.0 points

Thought Sunday was more comfortable for Motherwell than the previous games against us and struggling to see what we can do to change that. Milne is free from suspension so would expect to see him coming in for Morrison who has looked well below required standard. Olusanya did not impress again on Sunday. He does not offer much going forward and left us exposed defensively on the right side so would look to drop him. However not sure who replaces him as don’t think Milanovic has looked good enough and Bilalovic gives the same problem defensively. Not sure what Lobban has done but he has not featured since Thelin departed. Thought he looked our best option at right back this season. Was not as impressed with the new keeper as others seem to have been as don’t remember him coming for many crosses and he seems to have a habit of pushing shots into the middle of the goal. I would be instructing my strikers to follow shots in just in case he does it again. Thankfully work means missing this again but will be home in time to watch on TV. Pretty sure our cup defence ends tonight. Oot Work Couch Couch 2-0 no Dons scorer0 points
