What's the eligibility? Like, can we use posters from the English forums if they have grandparents that post on Donstalk?4 points

This is an example of what is known as 'The Gambler's Fallacy' A guy watches the roulette wheel and notes that the ball has landed on black 10 times in row. He concludes that this means the next spin must be red, or has an elevated chance of landing on a red ..... so he whacks his weeks wages on red. It lands on black ... he fumes and claims there is something wrong with the wheel ... Of course, previous spins or tosses of a coin have no bearing on the probability of the next outcome. Funny enough, folk who gamble on the horses/dogs do the opposite - they study form. No sane gambler will bet big on a horse/dog which has failed to win or be placed in it's last umpteen races in the belief that it is 'due a win' I do fancy we'll score, but .... errr .... I wouldn't bet on it3 points

Hearts are on 63 points after 29 games. Our 2014/15 and 2015/16 teams were on 62 and 61 points after 29 games. They're having a great season, but also benefiting from Rangers and Celtic having ridiculous seasons (albeit we didn't have Rangers to compete with). Consistent results against the non-OF teams gives a fighting chance and you don't necessarily need to spend millions to do that.3 points

I would suspect some invested just to be part of it rather than make money. Shame for the staff and all that but entirely self inflicted by the previous directors. Beer for people who don’t like beer.2 points

Just what the city needs, more job losses. It's going to be a ghost town soon. I do hope the prick James Watt isn't still on social media telling folk how he would fix Britain and save the taxpayer billions.2 points

Willie Miller, who stayed with us his whole career, despite better offers, who turned his back on Glasgow because of the sectarian shite…”ah hated it”,and whose chosen to still stay up here after these years..”love the City, love the people”. Why’s he not part of the Aberdeen family you spangle?2 points

Were you getting a pie when Shinnie rolled that ball into the clutches of the Utd keeper? I’m taking that as a bona fide SoT.2 points

Bit of self reflection could be useful at this point. While I agree with your point about differing opinions being shut down, that’s not strictly what you’ve been doing these last weeks. You’ve been prolific on a board that’s reasonably subdued so are going to create some form of impact just with that. On top of that, you’ve often been provocative and antagonistic with your views. Sometimes appearing to court controversy to attract attention to your opinions. None of that is a crime and it’s fair you defend your right to do it. Personally, I don’t mind a different point of view being thrust into a public discussion, certainly creates topics to debate and life about the place but it can be difficult to sympathise when you consistently call others out for their views (being overly negative, spastics etc etc) and then behave like your being attacked when the opposite happens. Not telling you how to behave by any means, just suggesting maybe toning down the controversial bait until folk get to know you. I’m fairly new on here myself (although used to post decades ago) and have had to temper my natural argumentative self a bit as I settle in. Makes for a much more enjoyable time if we just respect each others right to a view and have open and honest discussion.2 points

Don’t think we have managed a genuine shot on target in last two games and cannot see that changing on Wednesday. As has been said this is not a particularly good Celtic side but still expect them to beat us comfortably. We probably need to make changes to ensure players are fit and prepared for cup game. Game is live on Sky so couch for me. oot work couch couch 0-2 no dons scorer.2 points

I honestly don’t know. I have a season ticket at East End (my sons are Pars fans) so I bought my tickets through that. They don’t have a loyalty points system like The Dons. I got mine in the main stand close to the area I thought we would be getting as I’m going with my Dad who’s in his 80s. He introduced me to The Dons when I was a youngster.2 points

I was a regular in here years ago but then just started going on twitter and Facebook. It’s an Aberdeen podcast I listen too. He always says check out donstalk to see what the fans re saying and he reads a few comments without naming names1 point

It’s like lottery numbers. If you guess 123456 folk will say ‘that will never come up’. The odds of any combination are exactly the same, every time. I’ve lost friends arguing that one Anyway, back to the football. I’m checking out on speculating what’s gonna happen. What I knows is fairly certain is that I’m gonna go to the Elizabethan in the afternoon, drink a fair whack of lager and probably some spiced rum, catch up with friends, probably get a wee sing song ( if there’s still life in the red army) and stumble off to EEP. What happens there is less certain so I’ll surrender myself to the process. Stand Free and COYR.1 point

I liked Reynolds a lot, had a bit of class about him. Never the same I don’t think after he sliced his head in two at the highland huns1 point

Think we know he’s good, in the few glimpses we’ve seen of him, but we never get it for long enough periods. Gutted tbh but he sees to be made of glass . We should be looking to move him on and get someone else in, it’s not going to work.1 point

I think Cameron has done well enough and you can see he has ability, but I just think we could get better, especially if fees required.1 point

Mark Reynolds announced his retirement from playing on Saturday, at the age of 39, following Banks o Dees cup exit. I hadn't realised he was still playing. A fine loon1 point

You're arguing against points I'm not making. I'm asking a fairly straightforward question of who in our team would get into theirs? I'm asking from the perspective of our own side.1 point

It’s a really difficult comparison to make right now because we are so low on confidence and being poorly coached by the looks of it. We are changing our starting 11 week to week with no stability and even within that shifting players from position to position without any partnerships forming either at CB, up the wings or up top. We are the very definition of temporary right now with a chunk of our starting 11 either on loans deals or short term contracts, including the management team. It’s easy to then think the players are all garbage as performances are poor. Hearts are riding on confidence and everyone is busting a gut to play for the cause. Even with changes due to injury they are still getting results as they want it collectively. I’m def not arguing against the idea that they currently look like a team who are player for player just better than us. Same with Motherwell but I’m not fully convinced that with a stable set up and coaching in place that would be the case. We really are making a cunt of it just now.1 point

Celtic are no great shakes, so I can't see them thrashing us this time around. I'm not confident we will get anything on Wednesday night, but I don't think we will get hammered.1 point

Jist a wee note for younger folks fa might nae ken, Alex Ferguson would visit other clubs' games regularly when he was still a player wi Falkirk, Ayr Utd and also while manager o' St. Mirren. As a young lad, match day would start wi' the buyin' o' a match programme, then hangin' around the main entrance acostin' players for their autographs ... there were at least 3 occasions where Ah spotted SAF walkin' doon Pittodrie Street on his way tae see the game .... so it could be claimed he had a connection tae the Dons way longer than might be apparent. However, such a claim wid be outrageous in view o' the countless stadium stand seats the presence of his squeaky bum has graced over the decades. My guess is, he's simply a fitba man - start tae finish, aa the wye through an' twice on a Sunday - fa jist enjoys a good game o' fitba .... especially if he gets in for nithin!1 point

Nah, it used tae be red .... now definitely maroon .... and on this current trajectory, only a metter o' time before it's blue1 point

It’s frustrating because as bad as we’ve been, there have been times I think we have some good players. The livi game is a great example, we get some hope, then have been shit resultswise since. I also don’t think it matters what team we put out, we’re not good enough to squad rotate or rest players. We could get beaten by dunfermline, or lazetic scores a hat trick. It’s totally up in the air.1 point

Yeah, twice, but they don't count because that prick Ferguson wore a maroon tie on Saturday, so we've disowned anything he won.1 point

Superb on pitch interview. That's just reminded me. Ferguson and Knox both had maroon jackets in the early 80s. Wore them at Gothenburg for one. So the signs were there already. If only we'd noticed.1 point

They could just drag a wheely bin into the middle of the goals and leave it there, and we still wouldn't score.1 point

Long time no see guys. Heard this place mentioned on the AFC Donscast and thought I would check it out for the first time in years. It. I fear for Wednesday, Celtic are gash but we will still treat them like the are prime Barcelona. I think 3-1 Celtic1 point

I'd not be keeping Cameron. I don't think he has really added much to us since our arrival. We need to upgrade so many areas, that it isn't happening in the summer. We just have to hope that our new manager can turnaround the fortunes of what we do have and our recruitment can pull a couple of gems up from somewhere. Hopefully the lad Marshall signs up and kicks on1 point

Agreed, we'll see where he is at the end of the season. It's almost always a case of better the devil you know, which is why managers tend to stick with known quantities, and I don't blame them. Imagine we'd kept McGrath for example? Shinnie has to be worth a new deal on those grounds alone. If Cameron does anything between now and the end of the season then he would also be worth a punt (at present, I'd not break the bank for him, he flatters to deceive a bit despite a lot of effort).1 point

I think it would be a big risk to keep Geiger on existing showings. I think we could do a lot better. Motherwell have about 4 better midfielders than him already! I'm not writing him off, because there is the possibility that he's just getting up to speed, but it looks to me like he's just not quite good enough in several areas. Players like that can be quite deceptive, I usually describe them as Milsom types, they look good because they have good balance, a nice touch etc, but they just turn out to be nothing players. However, if he can work on his athleticism, the average parts could turn into real attributes, if he's first to second balls and does the coverage and work required of a top midfielder. I think he has to do it this season though, or else we'll end up making the Palaversa error with him.1 point

Finding it hard to care about this one, or any other league fixture we are involved in at this stage. Just make it stop. League has come down to hoping the Motherwell train can derail Jambos and the scum and that Killie’s resurrection has now fallen flat on its face. What a time to be alive.1 point

All or nothing this one. Whole season riding on it. Just gotta hope they’ve got enough about them to get the job done…1 point

My only comment here is we had similar to this going on over at Ab Mad, blatant fishing trips and trolling. Most folk caught on pretty quick and just ignored it, I suggest a similar approach to this type of posting here. Anyway, back on topic, this quote fae a St Etienne players is in the BBC fitba gossip page today: “Saint-Etienne midfielder Ben Old says new head coach Philippe Montanier has led the side to the top of Ligue 2 following four straight victories because he introduced more structure and pragmatism to the team since the departure of Aberdeen manager target Eirik Horneland” So while absolutely not writing anyone off at this stage, my sense of deja vu has been triggered somewhat, and the red flag is ready to be run up the flagpole…0 points
