I don't think Lennon is any better than McInnes (and, we should have been upgrading on McInnes, Thelin the only man we've appointed since who at least had a background and CV to suggest he may have been). What really goes against him is all the baggage that comes with him. I'd find it difficult to accept him as manager and I like to think I'm one of the less reactionary fans. He's going a good job at Dunfermline and fair play to him, but he's not what we need. He's a chequebook manager, a Celtic Jimmy Calderwood if you like. Give him a good squad and he might get them playing, but at Celtic he frustrated all the coaches because he had zero interest in the youth team and no desire to ever promote anyone. At Hibs he inherited a good team and as they broke up he couldn't fix it or rebuild, he left them in eighth. And he absolutely blew Celtic's chances of 10 in a row. I won't lose any sleep over us not appointing Lennon.4 points

Great to see three 'wee' clubs in the semis. All there on merit, and way better than the engineered pish in, for example, the Champions League where it is hard for the 'big' clubs not to get there. It's what cup football is all about. But I'm pretty fuckin pissed off a 'wee' club is there at our expense4 points

Cove nae Kincorth. Is the issue this time round not that we had half decent players under Leven last time? I get that the majority of his time was against bottom six as well but pretty much every one of our players from the 2024 semi would walk in to the team now. https://www.espn.co.uk/football/match/_/gameId/700695/celtic-aberdeen3 points

Kincorth. It's not about loving him, it's about understanding his position and is obvious limitations.3 points

I genuinely find this bizarre. As I said in the other thread, you can't ask a guy to do you a favour for a few weeks and then fire him for failing at it. He should at the very least be offered his old job back, and is probably due a public apology from the club for having monumentally fucked up the appointment of a new manager and hung him out to dry by having him in a post he's not suitable for and has no experience in for months on end.3 points

How is it a farce? They've beaten the teams they were drawn against. That's how cup football works.3 points

Said this repeatedly to anyone that would listen at the game on Saturday night. Didn't think it possible at the time but we have regressed in the past two months2 points

I don’t buy this. Who in their right mind takes a managers job knowing he doesn’t pick the team. Youve got nothing to gain there, and let’s just say you do well and are up for a future head coaches job, do you tell them you didn’t actually pick the team?? He may be getting input but I have to believe Leven has the final say. ill also add, who knows the squad better, Leven or lutz, and who has coached us before. Lutz picking the team makes no sense. Has he even been a manager/coach before?? loads of people losing it at present given the situation, and plenty of chat going around, some maybe true, others complete nonsense.2 points

Whilst I don't think Leven should be considered long term, the decline isn't all down to him. Our recruitment across the season has been abysmal, and we are arguably weaker than we were at the start of the January window. We've brought in a goalkeeper who doesn't look any better than Mitov. Morrison is poor, McIntyre average. Geiger so far has been more liability than an improvement on anyone. Aremu and Olusanya - we needed players to improve the first team, and instead we've two players to sit on the bench. Cameron the only signing I'd give plus marks to at the moment, and he's a loan signing from a rival club. Going back to summer:- Gueye been replaced by Yengi/lazetic. Morris by Milanovic. Despite the criticism he used to get, Jack Mackenzie would start for us just now. No-one of the level of Jamie McGrath has been brought in. Even Ester Sokler would be ahead of everyone bar Nisbet just now. Promoting Tony Docherty would solve nothing. He's already at the club so his "experience" is already there. Him picking the team makes little difference because he still has the same group of players, and he's not good enough to get more out of them. Get a new manager appointed now - whether he official starts in summer or not. Someone needs to be evaluating the squad and working with Lutz & Mowbray to identify what we need in summer, and we need it done early so we're not signing half our squad on transfer deadline day again.2 points

He always starts well. Its fit he does First 4 years with us were very good, though he did inherit some excellent players fae Broon - McGinn, Hayes, Reynolds etc. He did make some good signings too Rooney, McLean for example. We absolutely should have won more than 1 league cup given the Tims were the only competition on the go for most of that time. That was a big fail. His last 3-4 years were shite though (its also fit he does) and when he left we were pretty much as bad as we are now. We went something like 9 games without scoring a goal as I recall. It was time to go, the fact Teeth has made a complete arse of replacing him doesn’t change that fact…2 points

RELEGATION: Hope it isn't breaching any rules but I've been reading comments on AFC Chat. At least three people who are presumably Dons fans are claiming we were only saved from relegation because of the Falkirk ground not being SPFL rules compliant. One of the people claiming this is a "gold" member which I presume means he's a big shot which makes it double mental. Surely we were only spared having to take part in a play-off which no-one knows if we'd have won or lost? I can't understand Dons fans who buy into weegie media nonsense so much that they literally take as truth everything that is printed in rags like the DR. Mindboggling.2 points

Out Everyone has a breaking point, I've reached mine. Attending games in Athens, Prague, Kilmarnock, Dunfermline amongst others have done me. If I believed we could actually do it properly, relegation and a complete rebuild might work in our favour but like everything else nowadays, we'd probably fuck it up. Back to the game on Saturday Aberdeen 0 Falkirk as many as they fancy.1 point

Just been in getting a mountain of sugary crap for the grand bairns party. Where's all the good sweeties gone? Got me thinking. Used to enjoy these, see attached photo. Probably the closest I got to fruit in my childhood apart from the very occasional tin of fruit cocktail in milk or the obligatory banana, apple and tangies in my Christmas stocking. Good times.1 point

The problem is that his gone legs consistently cover more ground than any other player on the pitch. I think he should go in the summer too. I don't believe we'll do a good job of replacing him.1 point

So what do you want the SFA to do to prevent "three shit clubs" reaching the semi finals again? Have seeded teams in the draw? Everyone who has made it to the semi final has done so on merit. They beat the teams they were drawn against.1 point

Bloody hope not. He's what you call a constant and he needs to be fired out of a cannon back down to the central belt.1 point

I do hope we read news of him being relieved of his position today. Didn’t think he was up to the job and boy have I been proved right. I wanted to be wrong ffs.1 point

McGlynn is a very good football manager with a lot of experience. I'd have him at the Dons in a heartbeat. Lennon is also a decent manager, I'd grudgingly accept, but would want him nowhere near Pittodrie.1 point

He was playing out of position against Dunfermline, as anyone who has ever watched him play football even once would have known. Seemingly none of our management team understood what midfielders do, or even watched the short spell in that role against the Tims midweek.1 point

Could it not be a bit of both? Lutz has (or had) identified the new manager, who had presented his style of play and formation, so Lutz has asked Leven to try and work that in so that we're on a better footing for next season. He may also have asked him to play some of the new signings to get a feel for them ahead of the summer window. So not actually picking the team, but interfering a little with a view to next season. I would expect that to fade out as we get closer to the end of the season and a new manager is appointed. It's actually only Geiger that's currently getting minutes that might have a slim chance of being here next season anyway. The rest are all loans that will return, and were stop gap signings made to cover injuries. Aremu got a couple of starts, which was completely understandable in the role he's expected to be able to play eventually. Nilsen is probably the only player that can feel aggrieved at the lack of minutes at the moment, as it's his role in midfield that is being taken by both Geiger and Aremu. I think the more likely explanation for it seeming like Leven isn't picking the team is that we're a squad that is really low on quality and depth, and he's scrambling around a little because every time he picks a side they go out and fail. Personally, I'd be picking Shinnie and Nilsen in midfield with Cameron or Armstrong ahead, either in a 4-2-3-1, or in a 3-4-1-2, depending on whether or not he feels Olusanya can be trusted wide or not.1 point

But again, why does it need to happen in the summer? Why go to the lengths or rearranging the interim team, again, rather than appointing a new manager? We were holding interviews in January. We've all but made public our interest in two men. And yet we're discussing if we should change the interim team because we don't think we can appoint a manager for another three months. Because he won just twice in 13 games at Ross County, including a 6-0 defeat in his final game. Now, County have their issues (as do we) but there's no evidence there he is capable of doing any better than Leven with the current group of players. "He's experienced". Aye, so is Mark McGhee.1 point

That’s pretty much my gut feel as well. This has a different feel to previous spells with Leven in charge. Coukd be way off the mark but I suspect our Director of Football is the reason behind that.1 point

The problem whatever happens (unless we make a permanent appointment this week) is we have an interim manager managing a bunch of interim players. Most of them, even those not on loan, clearly don’t give a fuck about AFC. They’re hardly gonna give a fuck what an interim manager they’ll never see again in 2 months time says to them. I doubt they’ll give much of a fuck what a permanent manager says. Most know they are out of here at the end of May. We need to make a change cause we need to try something or we are in serious danger of going down, but fuck me what a mess we’re in…1 point

Ok then, ignoring the fact HR & accounts have absolutely no overlap in skillset at all, forget the “manager” bit, lets look at him as a coach. We’re dreadfully coached. Every facet of our game is terrible, can’t defend, second best in midfield, no width, create fuck all, don’t score etc etc. All that was there before he was interim and was just a straight up coach, and are all still there now. Some of it might even be worse. I liked his interview last night, honest, no sugar coating, told it like it is. I think he cares, certainly more than most of the players like. It was also basically an admission he doesn’t know how to fix it. He needs to go. There needs to be consequences for that. On the pitch the likes of Milanovic should never be seen again, off the pitch Leven needs to go…1 point

2017 was the peak. We had a really good team. Pushed a really good Celtic team all the way in that cup final. That’s when he should have left, downhill like a toboggan after that…1 point

I have gotten a lot of push back when I say this, but the stars aligned for Mcinnes when he came to us. Rangers had died, hearts Dundee utd and hibs had all been relegated while Mcinnes was here, and he inherited the foundation of a solid squad. We added a few good signings, plus he had some good leaders, and it was a very good spell with him. Similarities to hearts this season maybe, the rest have their problems and he inherited a good squad.1 point

Don’t hate the player, hate the game. I enjoy football less and less, the modern game is shit and we’re hurting as a result. I don’t blame cormack, we’re a much better club under him. But the team is shit at present, but we can change that. Performance changes quickly. Eg look at man utd at present. With the current game every season is a one off, we’ve finished this one and have to build for the next. Dont see us relegated, but obviously that isn’t guaranteed. this is modern football. Chelsea arsenal spurs Liverpool, man utd, even man city, all have significant manager and player turnover and have had their wobbles on the field in recent years. We’re no different really. Man utd and Chelsea are good comparisons to us, both had eras of player stability and success, similar to us under Mcinnes, but when the teams aged and had squad turnover, it’s been constant manager change and a struggle to be successful. rangers and Celtic are unstable. Celtic don’t have a good squad and don’t have a manager. They are vulnerable. Look at rangers under Martin, shit coach and shit team. How well has rohl done. But they aren’t strong. Hearts are having a great season, they were in the championship in 2021, things change and quickly. Good chance hearts lose players this summer, and possibly Mcinnes. dark times and frustration clearly justified, but point the blame at modern football. Sadly.1 point

Dirty Business on Channel 4 about the dumping of sewage by greedy water companies, and a pretty fucked up Environment Agency. Compelling and likely to get people angry, but like the post office drama. Just glad Scottish Water wasn’t privatised.1 point

And again when he voted along with the Tims to block the once in a lifetime chance to change 11-1 voting, thus ensuring the arse cheeks will continue to run the show just how they want it ad infinitum. The singularly most embarrassing, damaging and downright unforgivable thing anyone associated with AFC has ever done. Oh ffs, you’ve got me started now, I’ve started listing and I’m getting angry again just thinking about that gype and all the damage he did…1 point

We need more than a sacked/punted Ross County manager. We need the folk in charge to pull their finger out and get a manager in. Six/seven players signed in January and not one has improved us, not one.1 point

Well and truly shafted by a mid table championship team. This is what everyone involved with the playing side of the club deserves. Buying players that are useless, loaning scum, throwing money at coaches that apparently do fuck all and the list goes on. I don't care how many interviews Cormack does with the utter pish that comes out of his mouth. The club needs a reset and everyone there now needs to fuck off.1 point

I went to Kev’s book tour in Edinburgh in July. He was interviewed by his fellow Midlander Stewart Lee. Utterly fabulous. Word of a new album on its way this year, and if Dexys tour it, I suppose I’ll have to attend for what I think would be the 13th time.1 point

Total clear out required - on and off the pitch, including Leven who’s been part of too many failed regimes. He did ok as interim last time so I can see why he’s been put back in charge just now to hold the fort, but lets be honest, nothing has improved under him this time, nothing. Same defensive weakness, ropey goalkeeping, lack of width, often unbalanced midfield etc etc. Times up as soon as we get a new manager, has to be…1 point
