I have fond memories of Alex Miller. That break dance he did in the box prior to Strachan’s goal in the 4-1 cup final win vs the dead club was an absolute thing of beauty…5 points
-
On the bright side, he'll probably bring a lot of good backroom staff with him. We're really struggling in the goalkeeping department, especially when coming for crosses. They're bound to have someone who can help on that front.4 points

I've nothing against Stephen Robinson personally. I think he's a decent manager, and given a good squad he absolutely can be a successful Aberdeen manager. He's also a more successful manager than everyone we've appointed since McInnes, and as of now has also won the same number of trophies as McInnes. He also led St Mirren & Motherwell to a combined three cup finals, just one fewer than McInnes at Aberdeen, which is probably a bigger achievement when you consider the budgets. My annoyance is us once again abandoning a long term strategy because we can't make up our fucking minds what to do. We also could have appointed him two months ago and potentially still salvaged the season. I don't know if the Lutz leaving rumours are true, but if they are then that's another shit show to deal with. At the moment I have little confidence in us having a squad next season that will be good enough for Robinson to get anything out of.3 points

FFS, the only good thing about this daft appointment is that he will be fired in a few months.3 points

The DonsTalk website will be moving servers on Saturday 18 April 2026 (the weekend of the Scottish Cup semi-finals - no more needs to be said about that! ) There will be a brief period of downtime during the transfer between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday afternoon. It may take a few hours for the website to reappear as we point the donstalk.co.uk address to the new server. We're doing this ahead of a major forum upgrade taking place during the summer break.2 points

Good post, Panda! You made my post so much easier and shorter, was going to post something similar. He’s an experienced coach, Goodwin glass and Robson were not. Thelin had minimal knowledge/experience of our league, opponents, and players. Robinson will also have more of an idea than most of the type of player that’s needed for the SPL. We also have lutz (assuming rumors are false) and the return of Mowbray to find players. i suggested here early season that Robinson could be an option and got blasted for it, so no surprise that there’s so much negativity. But he has done well as a coach in the league. And won a cup. And not just with one SPL team. the big however is that he doesn’t seem to match the whole long term approach, philosophy of the club, and the glamor of a new coach. I’m certainly disappointed in this announcement, surely we could have done better. Seems like desperation/panic to me, and id be surprised if he came before summer. When i suggested him before one major negative voiced was the quality of their play. Haven’t seen enough of his teams to comment, although I have certainly been wooed more by the play of falkirk and Motherwell. Don’t remember the chat when Alex miller was hired, or Roy Aiken, and in more recent times when goodwillie came. Certainly my most deflating hire for us to date and I’ve been a fan approx 45 years, even though there are signs he could be a good fit/hire.2 points

As usual min 100% spot on. Incredible. I am angry enough about appointing Robinson but I think I'm more angry at the amateurism of the last couple of months. A complete laughing stock.2 points

I wouldn't either. It also wouldn't be implausible that Robinson was on the shortlist and that after Lutz's preferred candidates didn't come to fruition, Robinson's knowledge of Scottish fitba saw him ahead of a few foreigners that maybe Lutz wasn't as keen on. In terms of overall risk, Robinson is reasonably low, a bit like signing a player from another Scottish side in that regard. Maybe he's being pragmatic.2 points

I don't know this Alex Miller people talk of. I mind we had a manager called "Alex Fucking Miller". Is it the same mannie?2 points

That stuff stays with you. I remember the mighty Sons of the Rock had to go to Crappielow in a league championship decider. The glue sniffing unwashed minging sweaty b’stards sneaked a win and their whole team were celebrating in front of their honking support. One of them took the time to come over and rip the pish out of the Dumbarton end though, and I remember thinking what a classless disgusting pestilence ridden prick It was Derek McInnes2 points

Not my choice but it's the process that boils my piss. We are taking our time to get the right man, Lutz had contacts in every continent. Oh look at this guy who managed in France. Let's invite and promote the name of the ex red bulls manager. Lose in the Scottish cup, Leven says we are in danger of going down and looks a beaten man. Lets panic and just get the guy from Saint Mirren, He won a cup with Saint Mirren, but lets ignore his current run is as bad as our own. Totally Clueless all round.2 points

Not entirely, no. It is possible that a guy can want to sign several managers, but that they don't want to come to Aberdeen (and especially at this moment in time). Obviously Robinson is not his appointment, but perhaps Cormack has tried to come from the pragmatism/timeframe angle and been genuinely feared by the chance we might go down. Basically, give it another year and we can look again next summer when Robinson has run his course. There is still a shite tonne of things that require changing at AFC that a sporting director can get stuck into over the next six months and beyond. If Robinson can churn out results with a pragmatic approach, or even buy into the sporting director model, then that's an added bonus. If the penguin fucker is in disagreement then I expect we'll see his resignation within the week. We've had years to sort out the sporting director role, and it should have happened prior to firing McInnes. There'll be just as many shite sporting directors out there as there are shite managers I expect, we should really have been settling on a decent one by now. I'd say that every error football-wise lands on Cormack, even if Pfannensteil turns out to be a slavering mess.2 points

“Has fans in the Dons boardroom” I’ll bet any money that’s Milne. An ill advised, totally inappropriate appointment like this has got his greasy paw prints all over it. This’ll end well…2 points

Also we still have to play St Mirren twice. Couple of wins for them and they potentially leap frog us. Sooner we get at least six points in the bag the sooner I relax2 points

Is he though? Under Goodwin, St Mirren finish 9th and 7th, and although he left them in sixth he never completed the season (they finished 9th). Best they did in either cup was a semi-final. Robinson was his direct replacement, and in each of his full seasons they have finished 6th, 5th, 6th (their first top six finishes since 1985), won the League Cup and will be leaving them in the Scottish Cup semis. They qualified for Europe for the first time in 37 years. This is his first poor season in the league as manager, and can be attributed to injuries and yeah, poor signings. But they've still won a cup and did it by beating four Premiership teams on the way, including Hearts, and thumping Motherwell and Celtic. And that doesn't mention his record at Motherwell too, which ranks above Goodwin at both Dundee United and Aberdeen. I totally accept the negativity towards his appointment and that many of us expected something else, but he is a significantly better manager than Jim Goodwin.1 point

The man's religion is the least of our concerns about Stephen Robinson I'd respectfully suggest1 point

Reckon I would get more of a bounce from a pint glass of Robinson's diluting orange juice (full sugar) than from the Stephen variety1 point

Cancelled my DNA membership. Not interested in them pissing more of my money away and the only way that may see any disgruntlement seeping through to the charlatans at the top is if they are hit in the pocket. Feel free to use below as a guide if you feel similarly. "Please be advised that I wish to cancel my DNA International membership (number on account is XXX). Please also pass on to Executive that this is entirely due to the news release today and the utterly shambolic way the football operation of the club is being run. I can no longer financially support such ineptitude and I will not renew while members of the “Football Monitoring Board” are still at the club."1 point

I wouldn’t believe a single internet rumour about Lutz but if he is away, maybe he was given his chance to get a coach, fucked it and is paying the price?1 point

Having two forwards including in the starting 11 does not mean you play with two forwards. We can have any number of forwards on the pitch but fuck me they never seem to be in the box and don't get me started on inverted wingers1 point

Can't remember who he got sent off a few years ago but it was him falling down dead on the touchline with no contact that I have been unable to forgive. I detested Tosh McKinlay for years after him celebrating a goal against us. It's just one of those fitba things1 point

O'Hara would have been an excellent signing two years ago, but he's very much on the way down. I thought Philips was a decent enough player to have in the squad. Not a great footballer, but athletic and strong, and a good option off the bench to try and disrupt and get in folks faces when trying to play fitba has failed. Similarly, Richardson had all the attributes to be a serviceable SPFL fullback, sticking to a few limited instructions.1 point

That's one way of looking at it, but a good manager knows when to put on the right subs at the right time.1 point

Some people are just happier closing their eyes and hoping for the best. And we haven't garnered plenty of points pre-split, what will be different in the last games of the season?1 point
-
You don't say. They're eight points behind. EIGHT. We have been shite in some games but we're not as shite as Killie. "But but 3-0 but but Neil McCann". But but my arse. They'll finish second bottom. Even St Mirren will have to go some to overtake us. Yes I have changed my mind about us finishing 7th and winning all our post split games but I haven't changed my mind about relegation. It won't happen. Relax and try and enjoy the closing games of the season (if you are going to attend them. I'm certainly not going in Saturday) with the pressure off. It'll do you good. As the black people say "chill out".1 point

Too good of a thread to ignore, and I can feel my teeth rotting just thinking about it. I had/have a severe sweet tooth my whole life, blame it on delivering newspapers from about 1985-90, and breakfast quite often sweets from the paper shop, as well as a quick look at penthouse, and irn bru, cream soda, or red cola. Macaroon bars, snowballs (in a roll), loved a wispa and remember when it was introduced, the excitement! Mccowans highland toffee stuck to my teeth for what seemed hours, did like a milky bar, Turkish delight, curly wurly, and a good old fudge bar….about the size of a finger, covered in chocolate, orange rapper, was it jus called fudge? Still treat myself to a tunnocks caramel wafer occasionally, get those here, but my Scottish upbringing is the reason I have/had about 14 fillings, crowns, and couple of teeth removed.1 point

Dirty Business on Channel 4 about the dumping of sewage by greedy water companies, and a pretty fucked up Environment Agency. Compelling and likely to get people angry, but like the post office drama. Just glad Scottish Water wasn’t privatised.1 point
