  2. Regurgitation of the story I highlighted on 17th April or is it actually happening. Imagine signing a player of this age when we refused to give McGrath the fourth year that would have taken him through to this age

  3. He's been taken to hospital today after feeling unwell before the Man United game. The BBC are saying it's just a precaution and not related to the brain haemorrhage.

  4. I still have a (relatively) strong theory that Jimmy got Polvara and Palaversa mixed up or his phone predictive text messed up the team lines a few times

  5. McGrath's first ever tackle in professional football ends in a red card. Nae luck.

  6. Yep, this is where I am with Milne. I actually feel for him because its the club that’s tried to shoehorn him into a position he can’t play purely based on his size - but I guess that’s because he isn’t good enough for midfield either. He’s soft because he’s soft. Nothing to do with age, its just his character. Not the boys fault, its who he is, but its zero use as a CH in this league. You can’t coach personality traits and character, so he’ll always be too soft for CH. Then there is his complete lack of heading ability. Ok, maybe that can be coached a bit, but the basics need to be there (including the aggression) and he’s not got it. I’ve seen enough, there’s just not enough there to make it worth persisting with in our first team. If they want to keep him, he needs to do it out on loan. Get him a loan next to that big experienced hairy arsed CH who he can learn off and see if that works. We can’t do it in our first team next season though, way too much of a liability…

  7. I've read it afore, it's good, if you like that sort of thing. Like all the best books, it's quite accessible, with no horrendously long chapters, so even if you have a phone-addled attention span you can pick up and put down with regularity! It was only £5 in the rosemount bookshop, so it's fine to have in the hoose. It has to be photie-rhyming. I've been to Spain in athin.

  8. Fair assessments mostly being made but I agree with Don Julio that Bilalovic and Kjartansson are young players and it would be unfair to write them off yet. Maybe even Lazetic falls into that category, I feel like he could be the type of player Robinson could work with as he has the attributes physically. I wouldn’t write off any one completely, it’s been such a strange season.

  9. Very poor comparison but miller and McLeish complimented each other, we didn’t really want two millers or two mcleish’s, we had great balance. Where I think knoester beats Milne is I think Milne is soft, and for his height is really poor in the air, he’s just not a center half, he’s not fearless and aggressive. Knoester is a central defender.I I think milne’s ultimately a midfielder. Adding a brute next to knoester makes more sense than adding a brute next to Milne. RE Gogic, he could do a job despite his age. If he’s athletic and mobile he could play until he’s 36/37 and fill in at holding mid and central defense. Kinda what I expected from sivert, then we realized he couldn’t bend his legs or move.

  10. That wasn’t in the script . I really should pay more attention.

  12. Oh aye, an utterly bizarre decision. Compounded by the fact that we had absolutely zero plan to replace him, and had to scramble around to pick up Armstrong on a free after the window shut (not a criticism of Armstrong).

  13. The loon Goldie, as he was known in Torry. Asked the Doctor, a few days before he died, when he was getting out, as he had a game at Pittodrie to attend at the weekend. AFC was his whole life.

  16. Considine was soft as shite for his first two or three seasons. He worked out how to use his strength, got himself very fit, and from about 2008 onwards was always very aggressive in defence. Aggression is just a form of confidence, and once you start putting yourself about a bit, it comes. Nastiness can't usually be nurtured, but by aggression, we're just talking about learning how to use your strength and knowing that you're getting to a ball first. I'd actually say it's very rare for a young centre half to come in and have those attributes in their first season. McKenna did (although he apparently didn't during his loan spell), Porteous at Hibs and Graham at Dundee, but it's not the norm. There's a difference between playing without fear, and actually being strong and aggressive of course, and it's not usual for a young forward player to be in the former category. I'm sure there are tonnes of examples of defenders who've learned to use their physical attributes over time. It's not even unusual to see defenders do it later in their career, or after a year or so getting used to a league. Joe Shaugnessy was fairly weak as a Dons youth, but he was the opposite by the time he reached Dundee.

  17. Well, aye, but the answer is, and always was, balance. The problem with both Gogic and Boyle, is that they're both bordering on bottom six players. Safeish bets, but not with the potential that might come with the likes of Shinnie, MacLean etc when they signed. Difficult though. Maybe Slattery at Motherwell (I'm guessing Watt or Just would be hoping for better than us, and longelo will be well out of our price range now I expect)? Stewart at Falkirk would be fantastic, but Miller and Broggio also worth a look, as is Smith at Livingston. Not seeing anyone at St Mirren that is much more than bottom six level (O'Hara past his best, and playing right back), but Richard Taylor might be worth a shout as he's not getting much game time at Bolton (left footed, strong and aggressive). I'm sure there are plenty of others I'm forgetting about.

  19. Maybe stating the obvious now, but I would say that’s us realistically completely safe (if not quite mathematically). Three games to go and St. Mirren are 7 points back and Kilmarnock are 6 behind. Bear in mind they still have to play each other, worst case is they both pick up 7 points or St. Mirren pick up 9 and Kilmarnock 6. If we weren’t to pick up a single point more and that were to occur they could catch us. They are worse off by a goal difference of 10 and 12 at the moment, possibly if the scenarios described did occur this could be within reach. But ultimately it would take quite a series of results for us to end up 11th now.

  20. Milne is soft because he's 23 and playing in his first season was the argument I'm making. He's got the physique, he's just not using it. Knoester is actually also quite soft and not great in the air due to his physique, but he's 27 and around his peak. Milne needs somebody better at leading, in the way Miller did, basically throwing him into challenges and constantly barking at him. Knoester doesn't do that either unfortunately. Knoester would be complimented by someone like Gogic, as you mention, Milne needs a captain (or leader/organiser) alongside him to force him to be aggressive, and use the strength he's got. Milne played midfield when on loan, but he's not an SPFL midfielder, and will never be. I think we have to find a strategy for getting young players through, rather than just say that if they're not good enough straight away then we give up. That involves getting strong leaders in their direct partnership roles. I think Nisbet is good at that in attack, but we're missing that in midfield and defence. I couldn't imagine throwing a youngster into our current midfield and expecting success!

  21. Keskinen is a regular international player, he’s significantly better than Maclennan. He’s been inconsistent but there’s definitely a player in there. He’s one of the few players whose work rate doesn’t drop and keeps going if things aren’t going his way, that alone makes him worth persevering with I think. Milanovic is the opposite, one failed attempt to take on a defender then he’ll give up and stop trying.

  22. It happens consistently against us because manager after manager refuses to set up properly at set pieces. Honestly think the last manager that took it seriously was Jimmy Calderwood

  23. His biggest issue is the physical side. If he can get more power, strength and running he has the ability to be an asset. Hedges was gash in his first season for the Dons, but spent the summer working on his fitness and returned a very good player. Milanovic has technical abilities, definitely, they're just nearly invisible because he's got the physical attributes of a teenager making his debut in Scotland. That results in him being frightened to get the ball and timid in general. He's a player that could certainly be useful with a lot of work. He'll never be like Morris, because he doesn't have the pace, but he could be the strong, direct, runner through the middle that Hedges was. It just depends on how much time Robinson is willing to spend on him, and how much the player is willing to work. I have my doubts about both those things.

  24. County 0-1 up against Raith. Assist for Ryan Duncan as he steps over a free kick to let a better player take it.

  25. A lot of that has to do with their names and their haircuts. It was clear after Polvara was forced out for looking too much like Milne, that we were going to have to address the three you mention.

  26. Seems fair enough to be honest, not much he’s said it wrong. Obviously not absolving himself but as Panda says, he’s always going to try and distance himself from being part of the issue.

  27. Maybe with the liberal laws on drugs and prostitution and decent drinking hours Dutch teams saw sign a Scottish player akin to throwing a fox into a hen house.

  28. Considering the enormous influx of Dutch players in Scotland over the years, was surprised to learn how few Scots have played in the Eredivisie. There appears to have only been 20, two of which were Jimmy Calderwood and his son, Scott. Scott Booth played for three clubs (Vitesse, Utrecht and Twente), and Jamie Smith was there pre-Aberdeen (Den Haag). Frank Ross was the most recent to go there (Go Ahead Eagles). Of the 'Big Three' - Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV - there's only been two Scots. Ally Dick (Ajax) who won the UEFA Cup with Tottenham and was a ECWC runners up with Ajax, but injury curtailed his career. He only went to Ajax because Rangers elected not to sign him because he was a catholic. George Johnston (more English with a Scottish dad) had a spell at Feyenoord a few years ago. PSV appear to have never had a Scot.
