Interestingly, Lowe-life’s Restore party is polling around 7% in Makerfield. That could put a hole in the Reform boat. 7% of Makerfield needs an absolute hiding. Ajja
Interesting to see Blair sticking his knife into the debate in UK politics. Clearly hasn’t learned much from his Iraq war experience. 1 Quote Link to comment https://dev.donstalk.co.uk/topic/4156-dt-politics-thread/page/66/#findComment-284805

The article is suggesting that the material itself should be banned, but surely it's the cutting process that should be? It's not really like asbestos in that regard is it? The fine dust comes from the circular saw as far as I can tell, which isn't likely to take place in the home environment. From cutting tiles etc, the dust from snapping, or hammering up isn't the same as when cutting. Compared to something like plastic, it seems fairly benign. Well I guess the point is that it's a carcinogenic material, which is exactly what asbestos is. Whilst, yes, if snapping a tile etc the content is low, it still exists. Over here, since the ban in aussie, plenty have changed choices and refuse to specify it purely because a) we don't know if it's actually been made properly or b) there is a stigma associated to it now. Given the tories have been around for so long in the UK, i'm not surprised it's not been picked up on. There are better products that are not made with silica, so not an issue if it is banned from my perspective. Apparently he could ‘no longer stay silent’ and has written a 5000 word essay on what’s going wrong with the Labour government. His analysis was actually pretty spot on but his ideas are not so. His blend of market economics and social provision seems to have shifted a little further towards a Reagonomics/Thatcher-lite approach and his foreign policy ideas of do whatever US say is frankly mental. He is still sounding like he is seeking validation or justification for his stance on Iraq, all these years later. If you can’t be arsed reading the essay there is a decent interview with The News Agents pod but it’s pretty much a bend over and let the market and the US ride you senseless kinda deal. 1 Quote Link to comment https://dev.donstalk.co.uk/topic/4156-dt-politics-thread/page/66/#findComment-284842

Is the essay readily available? I haven’t checked yet but will seek it out if so. Don’t mind reading the ramblings of former leader, but will likely run out of time and stick with the newsagents it still amazes me how many people hold the US in such high regard when all the evidence points to the contrary. But your point re validation of the Iraq war makes sense of that. currently I can only relate to my current circumstances, but despite NZ having stronger economic ties with China, we appear (current muppets in power), to be chasing the yank dollar and approval. To the point of wrecking the country for the sake of a few minerals. It just doesn’t make sense. To the point of wrecking the country for the sake of a few minerals. It just doesn’t make sense. Blair’s point is more about necessity than preference with regards the US. His argument seems to be that we can’t operate without them as allies ergo we should always stand with them. Using the Falklands as justification (as he does) doesn’t stand up in my mind, not a comparable conflict i don’t buy the need for the US to protect our security as I don’t know who we are being protected from. Militarily, who is going to wage war on Europe? It won’t be the Russians, their economy is smaller than Italy’s and they have expended the majority of their arsenal and their young male population who are willing to fight on a conflict with Ukraine that they aren’t winning. The irony is that the most likely nation to try and annexe Europe right now is Trump’s America. Mason89 Posted Tuesday at 10:58 Report Share Posted Tuesday at 10:58 (edited) Nigel Farage addresses the nation. Not about how he’s never had a constituency meeting, or missed 77 Parliament votes in a row, or the £5m he pocketed from a Thai crypto billionaire for Brexit/security/something else or the fact his burd paid £900k in cash, presumably from tips, for a house he’ll never live in No, he wants to launch a white lives matter campaign on the back of a murder where the victims family specifically said it they didn’t want it turned into an issue of race.
