I actually considered missing my flight home on Friday from Frankfurt, and instead getting a train to Amsterdam and going to this. In the end the price of last minute trains & hotels was extortionate. Gutted I missed it, love a good meltdown. Quote Link to comment https://dev.donstalk.co.uk/topic/10377-eredivisie/
Panda
I was lucky enough to be at Feyenoord v Celtic on Tuesday before going to Frankfurt. Genuinely one of the best atmospheres I've ever heard. Some place De Kuip. We got there two and a half hours before kick-off and already there were big queues at all the turnstiles. Then 90 minutes before kick-off the stadium was full, the DJ playing all these dance tunes on the tannoy with everyone in the stadium bouncing along to them. During the game, any time the Celtic fans started chanting, the whole stadium just drowned them out. Even during half-time it didn't stop. Will definitely be back for another game. manc_don
Growing up, this fixture was always in the news. Had always aligned myself with ajax. Not sure what smashing your own stadium achieves Quote Link to comment https://dev.donstalk.co.uk/topic/10377-eredivisie/#findComment-253966
Panda
Ajax now second bottom of the league with just one win. A lot of Ajax fans also not happy with Jay Gorter (remember him?), who is now injured, but has been their goalkeeper for most of the season after their first choice was injured. Funny really, I didn’t even remember him leaving. Was unlucky imo, but seemed decent enough. Maybe we were his level? Wild the start of the season Ajax have had though, did not see that coming. Panda
Ajax had been on somewhat of a comeback after their horrible start to the season, but plugged 6-0 off Feyenoord at the weekend. Ajax Aberdeen - having terrible seasons. 1 Quote Link to comment https://dev.donstalk.co.uk/topic/10377-eredivisie/#findComment-257242
Jute
Feyenoord winning 6-0 not really doing them much good as they are still 9 points behind PSV. Ajax are currently 6th 7 points behind the last of the European places which is currently filled by AZ. Cannot remember last time Ajax were not in Europe. manc_don
Really has been a terrible season for Ajax. Looks like the last time they failed to qualify for Europe was 90/91 season? Quote Link to comment https://dev.donstalk.co.uk/topic/10377-eredivisie/#findComment-257280

There's not a stadium big enough to host that fixture. Quote Link to comment https://dev.donstalk.co.uk/topic/10377-eredivisie/#findComment-257285
Panda
Considering the enormous influx of Dutch players in Scotland over the years, was surprised to learn how few Scots have played in the Eredivisie. There appears to have only been 20, two of which were Jimmy Calderwood and his son, Scott. Scott Booth played for three clubs (Vitesse, Utrecht and Twente), and Jamie Smith was there pre-Aberdeen (Den Haag). Frank Ross was the most recent to go there (Go Ahead Eagles). Of the 'Big Three' - Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV - there's only been two Scots. Ally Dick (Ajax) who won the UEFA Cup with Tottenham and was a ECWC runners up with Ajax, but injury curtailed his career. He only went to Ajax because Rangers elected not to sign him because he was a catholic. George Johnston (more English with a Scottish dad) had a spell at Feyenoord a few years ago. PSV appear to have never had a Scot. 1 Quote Link to comment https://dev.donstalk.co.uk/topic/10377-eredivisie/#findComment-266446
Jute
Maybe with the liberal laws on drugs and prostitution and decent drinking hours Dutch teams saw sign a Scottish player akin to throwing a fox into a hen house. 4 Quote Link to comment https://dev.donstalk.co.uk/topic/10377-eredivisie/#findComment-266448
Bukta Bertie
I notice that Swedish oaf Karlsson has been sticking the boot in. He truly is a thoroughly unlikeable person with an overinflated ego. He's clearly going to make excuses for not being at his best, but I don't think he was slagging Aberdeen off. What he actually said was:- "I went on loan to Aberdeen. Jimmy Thelin, who I'd previously worked with at Elfsborg, was the manager there. That was the reason for my choice. Aberdeen is also a great club. I spent a few months there. "It was decent...well, sufficient. I played some minutes, scored a few goals. It was especially important for me to be playing again. "What I did notice was that Scotland is a different league than the Eredivisie. It was a lot more physical and there were a lot of high balls. Plus, it rained a lot. "It was a league that might not be as suitable for someone with my qualities. I love the Eredivisie because it suits my playing style. But it was good to go to Scotland; I was playing football again. "When Utrecht came, it was a great opportunity for me. The country, the league, the people. I really wanted to return to the Netherlands. And I'd heard good things about Utrecht. "When I went on loan to Aberdeen at the start of this season, I wasn't match-fit. I needed that time there. Now I feel like I'm fully back." manc_don
Seems fair enough to be honest, not much he’s said it wrong. Obviously not absolving himself but as Panda says, he’s always going to try and distance himself from being part of the issue. 1 Quote Link to comment https://dev.donstalk.co.uk/topic/10377-eredivisie/#findComment-278844
