Because RA doesn't host an Open, many Yanks know nothing about it.  Cruden Bay benefited hugely by getting in at #100 in Golf Digest's top 100 courses in the world, likewise Royal Dornoch is on the map becuase eveyone knows Watson goes there every year (or used to), but the Aberdeen area has no such draw. Trump's name will change that.

Golf tourism is worth over 300 Million a year to the Scottish economy. Building a course that can host The Open will be huge for Aberdeen.

Aberdeen/shire and the North East already have some excellent courses and as I said Royal Aberdeen will host the Walker Cup in 2011, probably as big a competiton as there has ever been in the North East.

Building a course that can host the Open, isn;t the same as actually getting to host the Open.

 

Trump has no chance whatsoever in the next 50 years of getting on the rota, but what does that matter, he;s the one who has to build it, and that is his stated motivation. The R&A won't site it anywhere they don;t want to, hopefully it does come here, but if it doesn;t so what, it will mean a little less in Trumps pocket, and a little less tourism, but the whole golfing developemtn in the north-east at the moment will drive golf tourism to an area that is largely excluded at the moment.
