(Supposedly) Iconic Films

Just watching a programme on Channel 4 just now about the year 1982.

Film of the year was E.T and it set me thinking that I can honestly say that I have never watched this film.

Putting that aside, I thought what other films that fall into the iconic category have I not seen and suddenly thought about Top Gun.

Sure there must be others and that will spring to mind in the coming days, but what about everyone else  what supposed iconic  films have you still to watch guys ?

Interesting topic BigAl.  I've never seen Back to the future.

Oh man. Part1 always has a place in my All Time Top Ten movies. It's the little details that Zemeckis adds in, like the Twin Pines Mall becoming the Lonely Pine Mall after Marty takes a tree out when crashing into 1955.

Iconic movies I've never seen? I've never watched The Dark Knight in full, have never seen Seven or any of the Mad Max movies. I saw Inglorious Bastards and The Shining for the first time over the Xmas break

Saw the first one, I can see why folk like it if that's your bag but it bored the shit out of me.

I was very late onto The Godfather bandwagon, but I agree I don't see what makes it such an iconic film. I love a good Mafia movie, but I put Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco and Untouchables well above the GF Trilogy. Pesonal opinion though

The wife, who usually has impeccable taste (clearly!) is 40 and has only just watched Jaws for the first time.

I watch Jaws at least once a year - absolutely love it. Sometimes I'll watch Jaws 2, which isn't bad. However i cannot stand Jaws 3(d) and Jaws The Revenge

Seen very few of the marvel movies, just not into comic book crap. Saying that, I did like the first iron man with Robert Downey jnr, but watched little to none of the others. Never got into Batman Spider-Man and the likes, watched very few of those, but I did watch and like the Christian Bale Batman films. A little darker, not so cheesy. Be curious to see if my opinion changes as my kids grow up and I may see some of these with them.

since I mentioned Downey jnr, I did like tropic thunder. Like the tom cruise character. Having lived in LA an dealt with some Hollywood folks, quite a normal person!

I’ve met somebody who had never seen any of the LOTR films. WTF!!!!!?

I watched the first one that was enough. The others have been on while various family members were watching and I was in theory supposed to be watching too but I wasn't.

Just not my thing. Ditto the Harry Potter series.

Also. Pile of shite. I've also never read Tolkien, which is why I didn't feel obliged to watch the films. I might read them at some point, but probably not.

I canna do the fantasy fairies and witches literature or film. Star Wars is a total mystery to be and I have no desire to have it otherwise.

Give me a paperback tale concerning a twenty-something Nottingham bicycle factory worker with grease under his fingernails, a rebellious attitude to authority, and who lives for a weekend of beer and fornication. Sillitoe’s the boy.
