What caught my eye today was the game on the 2nd January 2003, against the Victims. This game kicked off our centenary year and we got a credible draw against a good Victim side and from my memory, we played very well that day and should have won. I remember the game well and still have my match programme and other stuff relating to our centenary year. A crowd of just over 16k and over 3k, were victim fans. Credit to the club for at least getting more fans through the turnstiles nowadays, even if the on field product doesn't match fan enthusiasm. Jimmy Wilson and Billy Little had us 2-0 ahead at HT. Perth scored three in the second half. Every time I see Chalky Whyte, I give him grief for spending the second half on his butt as the pitch was icebound, and Saints players had changed into better footwear for the conditions. I despised Miller long before he become our manager. One of the many, many lows under Milnes stewardship. Were real dark days then. People forget, we had aitken, heggarty, ebbe, miller, Patterson between smith/scott and calderwood. Plus McGhee post calderwood. I don’t think cormack has picked the worst managers we’ve ever had. you are right about jimmy, very likable and we were all behind him. We badly want him to succeed. The fan support for his team has been amazing, it’s just not working. If memory serves me right the next day the red tops had a story of a Tic fan who bet his entire life savings (circa £13k) on a Celtic victory at odds of 1-13. The snow when it came was relentless. I'll be honest and say that I thought we were really shyte during their time at the Dons. His baffling post match comments used to irk me so much, clearly wasn't watching the same game as the rest of us. I know, fine guy, laid the blocks for McInnes and all that, but I never rated Brown much as a manager. Also in 2002, we beat St Johnstone 2-0 away in the Cup. Ben Thornley scoring! Jess, Irvine and Booth were on the scoresheet also. If I remember correctly, it was a cold day and the crowd wasn't great, but the football was. What a strike force. Our attacking threat that day came from Eoin Jess, Scott Booth and Mixu Paatelainen. Imagine having a Dons team capable of scoring seven goals in one game AND keeping a clean sheet. The stuff dreams are made of nowadays. Also on this day, in 1971, our 15 game unbeaten run, with 12 clean sheets, came to an end at Easter Road, with the Dons going down to a 2-1 defeat.
