A few things to note on this day.

Peter Weir was born on this day in 1958.

Willem Van Der Ark signed for us back in 1989. Scored on his debut against Motherwell too.

My first Boss, back in 1989, was a big dandy and he hated the Ark. I used to rave about him all the time, just to wind him up and one day he threatened to sack me. 🤣

I think he was joking, but he never spoke to me the rest of the week.

Tough going, considering there was only four of us in total. 😆

Best of all though, was beating Septic on this day in 2009. Zander Diamond scoring a brace, to send us dandies loopy, our third coming just minutes after McDonald had equalised for Celtic. Then a fourth sealed the deal.

We were shouting for five.

Gary McDonald and Stuart Duff, had gave us a 2-1 half time lead.

I bounced all the way back home to Torry, after that game.

44 years ago today, since a young Hilton loon called John Hewitt, scored after 9 seconds, against Motherwell in the Scottish Cup.

We wouldn't lose again in the SC, until 17th April 1985.

Also on this day in 1988. Charlie Nicholas, scored his first goal for the Dons, in a 2-1 defeat, down at Motherwell.

Maybe their revenge from 1982!

There is also a press story listed from 1950, with talk about a 70,000 capacity stadium for Aberdeen.

One of those old Transits, nae side/back windows, and a corrugated metal floor to sit on.Brutal  journey, not much eased by the carry out we picked up.

Shite game, good result. Johnny Hewitt min...🏆

On this day in 1974, Aberdeen played the first official football match, in Scotland, to be played on a Sunday.

Aberdeen were beaten at home, by Dundee. 0-2.

The heritage trust doesn't list a kick off time for it.

I bet it wasn't at 4:30pm.

A Scottish Cup game. I couldn’t go because other plans had been made for me (Sunday fucking Sunday…) 😡 I recall that Dave Johnston, Dundee’s left back, and later the Pittodrie club secretary, scored one of TMSTID’s goals.

i maintain my firmly-held view that even midweek games should kick off at 3pm on Saturdays. Fuck TV.

On this day on 1989, I had my first away day.

Down to East End Park for a 0-0 draw, with the Pars, in the cup. It really wasn't a good game and I was taken aback at how ramshackle East End Park was.

We did win the replay on the Wednesday, 3-1 and then went out of the cup against the Jute, in the next round, at the third attempt.

Also on this day.

1905 - Pittodrie had its first ever five figure crown, against Queens Park.

1967 - Davie Robb made his debut for the Dons, in a cup tie against Dundee.

1992 - Posters appeared around Aberdeen, asking people to boycott Pittodrie, due to wanting rid of Alex Smith.  I can't remember that happening, but certainly remember wanting Smith out.

A Heritage Trust plaque on Correction Wynd commemorates the location of the meeting and agreement between all three clubs to amalgamate.
I believe a management consultant was present, whose advice to the suits: “a key performance indicator should be set to commit the club to win a European trophy by the end of its 80th anniversary year” was ignored.
The official minute verifies that this drew the unanimous comment, “Awa min, ye radge min”.

Do the minutes record whether they all went to the chipper to celebrate afterwards?

Records are blurry on the post-meeting repast, with conflicting opinion on the chipper from which the gaffers took greasy, vinegar-saturated sustenance. Some claim Davy’s in Boxy, others Sweaty Betty’s in The Spital. Only The Great Mystery of 1931 has seen more serious debate among Toonsers and Mealers in the annals (note - just the one ‘n’) of Aberdeen FC’s 123-year history.
