Mason89
I heard Mike Joyce getting interviewed about his book on Radio 6. I’ll definitely be giving it a bash, hopefully it’s better than Johnny Marr’s. Quote Link to comment https://dev.donstalk.co.uk/topic/635-what-are-you-listening-to/page/101/#findComment-272881

TheDonbytheDee
Not what I am listening to, but more what I just read and about music. Aberdeen, or Kincorth to be more precise, actually has a celebrated song writer. Graham Edwards, from Kincorth, had written hits fir Avril Levine, Britney Spears and Christina Aguiela, amongst others. Article about him on the P&J website and nice to hear of another musuc related success from the city. A belter of a line in the article. "Graham was born in 1959 and brought up in the cold Gorbal-esque tenements of Caisdykes Drive, Kincorth." Don Julio
For those that like a bit of 90s shoe gazing, this is a powerhouse. To be played loud! Trivia fact is that Toni Halliday is the vocalist on Leftfield’s Not Forgotten. Oh, and the video is Dandy compliant, featuring as it does a sheep. What more could you want. Well maybe just that one hoose where the bloke hit his wife over the head with a hammer and then slit her throat. Oh hud on that was HIS hoose. His da, his ma. Bet that never went in the article. Prick. You being serious here? I just thought the Gorbals comparison was such shyte. They would have been new flats when he was born. Heating and indoor toilets for starters. Aberdeen has some rough places, I stay in one of them and nothing like what the Gorbals was. Nothing at all. Telling folk he came from Ferryhill, instead of Kincorth was also poor form. Nothing to do with him obviously but to make out he lived in some sort of criminal infested slum when it was HIS family acting like that stuck in my craw. That is mental to read. Had never heard of the guy before, but after reading what you have written, my estimation of him dipped a good bit. I still can't get the Gorbalesque quote out of my head. An absolute belter. Caisdykes Drive was actually the first place my folks stayed, before moving onto Torry, due to them having had a third kid. TheDonbytheDee
Was in seeing ABBA Mania at the Music Hall. A very good night was had. Brought back a lot of happy memories of my very young self, playing my Sister's ABBA singles on the Stereogram when I was little. Scratched a few of them too. I have a very broad musical taste, Electronic music is by far my favourite, but have always had a big weakness for ABBA. BigAl
The reissue of the one and only album recorded and released back in 1984 by little known Glasgow band Friends Again. Still sounds brilliant all these years on. After they split various members went to to find fame with other Scottish bands, namely Love & Money and also The Bathers. If you were around back then and didn't know this album, do yourself a favour and give it a listen Quote Link to comment https://dev.donstalk.co.uk/topic/635-what-are-you-listening-to/page/101/#findComment-273999
swaddon
I made a playlist of all the songs in the chart on the day I was born, so I've been listening to that. I've had to omit number 49; All That Glitters by Paul Gadd. Quote Link to comment https://dev.donstalk.co.uk/topic/635-what-are-you-listening-to/page/101/#findComment-274136

I am duty bound now to seek out and listen to the other singles in the chart from that week. Have to admit to not knowing that many, but likely a few I will know to hear. 1 Quote Link to comment https://dev.donstalk.co.uk/topic/635-what-are-you-listening-to/page/101/#findComment-274140

Don Julio
All gone very quiet on here, so thought it might be time to get things moving again. For those that like their lyrics, and maybe with an interest in family history, here’s a wee ditty by Dean Owens that centres on the shire. 1 Quote Link to comment https://dev.donstalk.co.uk/topic/635-what-are-you-listening-to/page/101/#findComment-276163
